President Shoichiro Iwakiri Pays Courtesy Visit to Governor Omura of Aichi Prefecture
Update: March 27, 2026

On Thursday, March 26, 2026, International Christian University (É«¿Ø´«Ã½) President Shoichiro Iwakiri paid a courtesy visit to Governor Hideaki Omura of Aichi Prefecture. During the meeting, they exchanged views on the progress of their comprehensive partnership agreement and future prospects. É«¿Ø´«Ã½ and the Aichi Prefectural Board of Education concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement in 2023 in the fields of education and research.
As part of this initiative, beginning in April 2026, two in-service teachers from Aichi Prefecture will be welcomed as research students at É«¿Ø´«Ã½. In addressing complex societal challenges through inquiry-based learning and in the practice of International Baccalaureate (IB) education, a liberal arts perspective is indispensable. Through learning in the university's IB teacher training program, É«¿Ø´«Ã½ aims to cultivate next-generation IB educators with advanced teaching capabilities who will take the lead in fostering globally competent individuals.
Governor Omura expressed strong expectations for the development of next-generation teachers through the use of the university's educational resources.
During the meeting, President Iwakiri gifted Mitaka Osawa Wasabi, harvested on the É«¿Ø´«Ã½ campus, to Governor Omura. Referring to Moriguchi Daikon as an example, President Iwakiri expressed respect for Aichi Prefecture's commitment to preserving regionally rooted food culture, while introducing the wasabi as a symbol of the university's rich natural environment. The exchange provided a warm and convivial moment to share aspects of the university's natural surroundings and its community-based activities.
Prior to the courtesy visit, President Iwakiri toured the startup support hub "STATION Ai," guided by the Aichi Prefectural Government, Bureau of Economy and Industry. Experiencing this cutting-edge innovation environment offered valuable insights for the future of education and research.
The university will continue to promote the further development of liberal arts education and contribute to society through its collaboration with Aichi Prefecture.
