É«¿Ø´«Ã½ Graduate Student Received the Outstanding Presentation Award
Update: April 24, 2026

Our doctoral student, Yoonjung Kim-Hines, received the outstanding research presentation award from Prof. Mikiko Nishimura, the president of Japan Society for Africa Educational Research (JSAER) at Naruto University of Education on April 19, 2026.
Yoonjung Kim-Hines's presentation titled " Relational Leadership under Constraint: Headteacher Agency, Trust, and School Feeding in Uganda's Decentralized Education System " revealed that the way principals lead and build relationships with the community in rural primary schools in Uganda differs from the types of leadership observed under stable institutional environments as indicated by existing research. The study was appreciated for its careful analysis of the context in Uganda and for providing rich theoretical and policy implications.
Comments by Yoonjung Kim-Hines,
I am very happy and relieved to receive this award. I am especially pleased that the dissertation I worked on throughout the past five years of my doctoral studies has been recognized by colleagues who, like me, are deeply concerned with educational issues in Africa. I also feel relieved for another reason. Students of Professor Mikiko Nishimura have received this award every year, and I felt a strong sense of responsibility to carry on that "tradition."I am grateful that I was able to do so.
After working more than ten years following my master's degree, it was Professor Nishimura who gave me the courage to return to school and study again. At the same time, through her consistently sharp and critical comments, she helped shape the person and scholar I am today. I will continue to do my best so that I, too, may carry on the legacy of É«¿Ø´«Ã½ as a scholar in the years to come.
