É«¿Ø´«Ã½

University Consortium

É«¿Ø´«Ã½ works cooperatively with other universities with the aim of further promoting education and research.

The Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia (ACUCA)

ACUCA is a community of Christian institutions of higher learning in Asia which work closely together to benefit each other as well as the societies in which they exist£¨£©.

Currently, ACUCA has 66 member institutions from 9 countries/regions of Asia, namely Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand.

The ongoing activities that ACUCA supports include:

  • Tama Academic Consortium (TAC)

Inaugurated in April 1995, the Tama Academic Consortium (TAC) currently comprises six universities: Kunitachi College of Music, Musashino Art University, Tokyo Keizai University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Tsuda University, and É«¿Ø´«Ã½. The purpose of the TAC is to explore ways for these six universities in the Tama region - all of which are relatively small and have distinctive profiles - to cooperate and advance their education and research activities.

    Reciprocal Credit System

Students of TAC member institutions can take classes offered at the other institutions and have the credits they earn counted toward graduation requirements at their home institutions.

    Mutual Use of Libraries

Students, faculty and staff of the member institutions can freely use all TAC member libraries by showing their student ID cards, personal identification, or other documentation upon entry. It is also possible to borrow materials held at other member libraries through their own libraries. The combined holdings of the six TAC member libraries amount to more than 6 million items, consisting of unique and attractive collections reflecting the specializations of each institution.

    Community Engagement

The consortium works to share the fruits of academic research in distinctive fields with the general public, through activities such as public lectures tailored to community needs.

    Student and Faculty/Staff Exchange

Exchange of students and faculty/staff is pursued actively within the consortium, with the aim of generating new outputs in education and research.

    Joint Publicity Activities

The TAC News is a medium for publicizing campus festivals, concerts, and art exhibitions, as well as public lectures, seminars, and other events hosted by each member institution.

    Tokyo University of Foreign Studies

In April 2009, É«¿Ø´«Ã½ entered into a framework agreement for mutual cooperation in education and research with the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS). The aim of the agreement is to deepen exchange and further develop relations between these two universities, both of which have a global outlook and share common goals, but at the same time possess unique strengths. In addition to the existing system for credit transfer across graduate schools at the two universities, the agreement made it possible for members of É«¿Ø´«Ã½ and TUFS to make use of the libraries at one another's institutions. Furthermore, a reciprocal credit system was introduced at the undergraduate level in the 2010 academic year.

    Reciprocal Credit System

É«¿Ø´«Ã½ students can take selected courses at TUFS and have the credits they earn counted toward graduation requirements at É«¿Ø´«Ã½, and vice versa.

    Mutual Use of Libraries

É«¿Ø´«Ã½ students, faculty and staff can use the library at TUFS.

    Agreement with Five International Universities

In August 2012, É«¿Ø´«Ã½ entered a cooperative agreement with four other Japanese universities in order to further promote the globalization of higher education in Japan. Known as the "Global 5," the partners to this agreement are Akita International University, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Sophia University, Waseda University, and É«¿Ø´«Ã½.

The agreement's aims are to share information on student support systems and teaching methodologies that cultivate superlative global citizens, to develop joint educational programs, and to operate joint faculty/staff development programs.

*This agreement succeeds an earlier agreement between É«¿Ø´«Ã½, Akita International University, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and Waseda University that was entered into in April 2010, to which Sophia University, with its longstanding commitment to international education, also joined. The addition of Sophia University was taken as an opportunity for all five universities to renew their agreement for mutual cooperation.
