71Why does É«¿Ø´«Ã½ attract international students from about 50 countries and regions around the world?
É«¿Ø´«Ã½ is a university that has opened its doors to the world. It accepts all students equally and without distinction, including domestic Japanese students, international students, and returnee students, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or nationality. To achieve this, since 1955, É«¿Ø´«Ã½ has always welcomed students who studied in the Japanese education system in April and those who studied in foreign educational systems in September. To respond to increasing diversity, from 2017, É«¿Ø´«Ã½ has progressively introduced admission systems that will allow students who have been educated abroad to enter in either April or September, depending on their linguistic and educational background (Universal Admissions).
Today, 65 years after É«¿Ø´«Ã½ first opened its doors, É«¿Ø´«Ã½ welcomes students from 50 countries and regions around the world. The reasons these students choose É«¿Ø´«Ã½ include the ability to apply from diverse educational systems, the Japanese language programs in which students can learn Japanese from the basics, the high level of quality of an É«¿Ø´«Ã½ education, and the fact that É«¿Ø´«Ã½ is a liberal arts college.
Within this campus environment, values differ even among Japanese students, but they differ again from those of international students from overseas. At the É«¿Ø´«Ã½ campus, which is filled with true diversity and where students of diverse educational backgrounds learn together, students have their eyes opened to new things and develop the qualities of a "global citizen," that is, someone who will be trusted in the international community.
